Juvenile fiction

Jan Terlouw

Before and during his career as a writer, Jan Terlouw, born in 1931 in Kam- perveen, was a member of the Dutch parliament and, for a certain period of time, minister of Economic Affairs. He still found time to write and turned out to be one of Holland's most successful authors of juvenile books. Jan Terlouw is also popular abroad: his books have been published in more than twenty lan- guages and have been awarded national and international prizes. Terlouw writes about contemporary issues, using his experience in the political arena to discuss such topics as democracy and use of power. But he is not moralistic and cloaks his messages in compelling and exciting stories.
